Case Study: HMP Lewes
Dawsongroup kitchens provide tailored catering facilities to a cross section of industries. The solutions available are incredibly flexible and ideal for a number of requirements including refurbishments, extensions, emergency/disaster recovery and extra capacity.
Dawsongroup, as a relatively new supplier of kitchen products into the prison service, are now establishing themselves as a reliable provider. HMP Lewes is currently undergoing a major £38 million refurbishment programme. Part of the refurbishment programme is to increase the capacity of the current kitchen to cope with the 200 additional residents expected on completion. During this phase, Dawsongroup provided a catering facility, which ensured catering staff could continue to provide three meals a day.
Following a careful assessment of the site and their specific requirements, Dawsongroup installed two 25ft kitchens, each with four 20-grid combination ovens, to enable the high volume catering operation to be maintained. In addition to the standard double sinks and drainers that were supplied, spare space was allowed for the Prison Service to position their own hot cupboards.
Commenting on the successful installation, Business Development Manager, Lee Thomas, said 'since we re-designed our kitchens to include a raft of health and safety features, including automatic fire suppression and fully adjustable air extraction systems, our product has been in demand across our business. However, we were delighted to have been given the opportunity to supply the Prison Service through Kier Longley, and we are looking forward to working together on future projects.
'Dawsongroup are a good company to work with and I would certainly use them again for future projects.'
