Case Study: The Orders of St John Care Trust
Dawsongroup were recently contacted by a client of many years, The Orders of St John Care Trust, who required kitchen solutions at two of their sites in Melksham and Oxford whilst they underwent refurbishments this Autumn.

Melksham-based Brookside Care Home, catering for up to 50 residents, and Townsend House in Oxford who offer individualised resident care, both required their catering facility for an initial 3 week hire period during refurbishment works on the existing kitchen on site.
Installations Manager, Dave Hill, and Healthcare Account Executive, James Richmond, conducted a complete site survey in both locations to check service connection points, determine kitchen siting and identify any restrictions for delivery. The collated information was then detailed in the installation action plan to ensure a smooth delivery and installation.
Both sites were supplied with a 25ft Commander kitchen, complete with a six-burner range with oven, salamander grill, hood-lift dishwasher, upright fridge, freezer and preparation tabling with Townsend House also requesting a 20-grid combination oven due to the specialist nature of the meals provided.
All equipment supplied to both homes operates on LPG, where the gas required for its operation can be easily transportable to site by an approved supplier and straightforwardly removed once the kitchen unit is no longer in use. This type of gas supply is also cheaper to install, easier to source and heats faster than natural gas, as it contains double the amount of energy.
Both sites were also supplied with ramps for ease of transportation of trolleys to and from the main building. With a variety of different meals being prepared for residents at every sitting and frequent trips out to the temporary kitchen, we understand that it's essential that this process is kept as simple as possible.

Dawsongroup's kitchen technician, Martin Newman, was responsible for the installation in Oxford and worked tirelessly to ensure that the unit was in place to the client's exact requirements despite a restricted entrance for the delivery vehicle. As with every installation, Martin also provided training to the catering staff on how to use the catering equipment and operate the external gas bottle switch-over system.

Our solution for The Orders of St John Care Trust has enabled them to continue their catering operations yet again during a time where working practices are out of the ordinary.

As the 3 week hire period came to an end, Townsend House requested to push back the off-hire of their unit as the refurbishment works were due to extend. Dawsongroup were able to accomodate this request with minimal delay due to our knowledge and experience of project work; sometimes, unexpected and unavoidable delays occur.
